We are on a journey to create a cleaner, greener environment for all.

Our initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

The world has made a sharp and accelerated turn toward carbon neutrality. The Daikin Group has seized this opportunity to establish our own "Challenge to achieve carbon neutrality". This mission aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

We have set a target to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire lifecycle of our products by 50% or more in 2030. And we will continue forward on that journey to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

With efforts to achieve a decarbonised society being rolled out across the globe, it is our top priority to speed up our initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the entire lifecycle.

Here are some of the key steps we are taking along that journey…

1. Leading the heat-pump revolution

Daikin is fully behind the decarbonisation of the heating market. We’re investing heavily to promote the transition from combustion heating to heat pumps that use heat in the air. To put it simply, heat pumps are the future of heating.

Our heat pump technology is already changing the face of home heating. We have already installed over 1 million heat pumps across Europe, helping homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint. Daikin’s ground-breaking range of heat pumps provides people with viable green alternatives to the traditional fossil-fuelled boiler.

2: Carbon neutral at every step

Daikin aims to achieve a carbon-neutral society across the entire value chain. This covers not only product development and production, but also the impact of our product use. And also what happens to our systems at the end of life.

Demand for air conditioning is expected to carry on growing around the world. And that means we need to continue to explore ways to reduce the environmental impact of air conditioners, from start to finish.

3: Reducing electricity consumption

Alongside minimising CO2 emissions from our business operations, we’re focusing on reducing electricity consumption during usage.

Air conditioners with inverters consume 50% less electricity than ones without inverters. For this reason, Daikin has focused on the development of inverter technologies to shift the market towards this lower energy-consuming technology. We’re making it our mission to lead the industry towards a greener future.

4: Pioneering improved refrigerants

We’re working hard to mitigate the impact of refrigerants. Daikin has identified that R-32, which has approximately one-third the global warming potential of conventional refrigerants, is the right choice for air conditioners. For this reason, we’re promoting the spread of R-32 worldwide, offering free access to our patents.

At the same time, we’ve created a recovery and reclamation cycle for used refrigerants. This recycling initiative means we can significantly minimise the impact of refrigerants currently in use.
